You can ride in sandals

Yes, the sweet clicky-clack of your clipless bike shoes alerts everyone that you are nearby and that you are, indeed, a bicycle rider.

While we are all super impressed, and as shocking as it might sound, you don’t have to clip in to pedals to ride a bike.

Flat pedals work, too.

And regular shoes work just fine.

So do sandals.

I’ve even gone barefoot (it hurt, but it works).

I’ve ridden my bike wearing skirts, dresses, high heels, and Catwoman costume.

I’ve been seen wearing a bright blue wig, my swim suit, and fancy clothes for interviews and dates.

So, It actually doesn’t matter what you ride your bike in, as long as you’re comfortable and nothing will get stuck in your chain -- or your spokes. Maybe just watch out for moving parts.

So even though people feel the need to tell you what you should wear when riding your bike, or you feel pressured to join in on the lycra gang, you actually don’t have to listen and you can wear whatever you want.

Even if that’s clipless bike shoes and lycra.
